Phillipians 1:1-11, NIV

Due – November
20

1. Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:

2. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. I thank my God every time I remember you.

4. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy

5. because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,

6. being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

7. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.

8. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

9.  And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,

10. so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,

11. filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

18

 1. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem

 2. and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."

 3. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.

 4.  When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.

 5.  "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written:

  6. " 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;  for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my   people Israel.’”

 7.  Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.

 8. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."

  9.  After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

 10.  When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

 11.  On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

  13. They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?" "They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him."

  14. At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

  15. "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she

said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

  16.  Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means

        Teacher).

  17.  Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and

tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "
